Processional Cross - St Botolph's Church Aldgate, London.

St Botolph’s Church. Transport for London. 2007

In March 2007 Steven was commissioned to design and make a processional cross to commemorate the lives of the seven people who died in the London Bombings at Aldgate tube station on July 7th 2005.

The work was commissioned for St Botolph’s Church, Aldgate, London. The Church is situated close to Aldgate Tube station and was used as a triage centre for victims of the bombings as well as both a base for subsequent forensic work and centre for calmness and contemplation in the aftermath of the event.

The brief was to produce a processional cross, to provide a focus for those who had lost friends and family and for it to be of relevance to the church, its history, its location and  its relation to the events on and after July 7th 2005.

Oak, Photo-etched stainless steel. H.225cm, W.28cm, D.8cm.
